Entomology section

Entomology is the study of insects, the largest  group of living organisms, with probably over a million species worldwide. There are many sub-groups which are studied by Yorkshire naturalists, and the following have special interest groups within the YNU:

Bees, wasps and ants (Hymenoptera: Aculeata)

Parasitic wasps (Hymenoptera: Parasitica)

Sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta)

Beetles (Coleoptera)

Butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera)

Plant bugs (Hemiptera), Lacewings (Neuroptera), Dragonflies and their relatives (Odonata)

Crane flies (Diptera: Tipuloidea), Dance flies (Diptera: Empidoidea)

Grasshoppers and Crickets (Orthoptera), other flies (Diptera)

Mayflies (Ephemeroptera)

Caddis flies (Trichoptera)

Plant galls

There are also other groups of Arthropods which are studied by YNU naturalists. These include:

Woodlice (Isopoda), Millipedes and Centipedes (Myriapoda), and False Scorpions (Pseudoscorpiones )

Spiders (Araneae)
