YNU needs volunteers

The YNU urgently needs volunteers to carry out its functions.

We need:

General Secretary. The general secretary is the point of contact between the Union and the Charity Commissioners. He or she is a trustee of the Union. We would like to appoint a candidate immediately as Assistant General Secretary to train under our existing General Secretary John Newbould . Training is available on the obligations of a trustee.

Time commitment is 1-2 days per week at the peak but very little during the summer.

Treasurer. We will not need a new Treasurer until 2011 but in the meantime John Newbould can provide training. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel is needed but you do not need to be a mathematician or an accountant! The YNU has a fully integrated cashbook and balance sheet to Charities Act standards with just a simple data entry on an Excel spreadsheet. The Treasurer is a trustee of the Union.

Time commitment is about 30 minutes per week on average.

Conference Team. The annual conference is best handled by 3 people:

  • Programme organiserresponsible for arranging the programme, booking speakers and organising publicity

  • Conference secretary – responsible for `domestic’ arrangements: catering, attendance booking, reception on the day.

  • Exhibition organiser responsible for all aspects of the exhibition

The volunteers for these jobs do not need to be Trustees.

The time commitment is about 3 days per annum but the volunteers will need to coordinate their activities.

Please volunteer. There are jobs for everyone!
